In recent years, Medium has emerged as a popular platform for writers to share their thoughts, ideas, and stories with a wide audience. However, amidst the sea of articles, a concerning trend has emerged — the obsession with metrics over content.

Writers on Medium often find themselves caught in a cycle of seeking validation through metrics such as the number of claps, views, and earnings they receive in a given month. It’s not uncommon to come across articles where writers boast about their success, measuring it solely by these numerical figures.

But what does this obsession with metrics say about the quality of content on Medium? Does a high number of claps or views equate to meaningful, impactful writing? The answer, quite simply, is no.

While metrics can provide some insight into the reach and engagement of an article, they do not necessarily reflect its value or impact. Quality writing is not determined by the number of claps it receives, but rather by its ability to inform, inspire, provoke thought, and evoke emotion in readers.

Furthermore, the emphasis on metrics can lead to a culture of comparison and competition among writers, detracting from the collaborative and supportive community that Medium aims to foster. Instead of focusing on creating content…
